Workshop Description:


Job seeking is often a very frustrating process, full of hidden- and not-so-hidden -obstacles. Ever wondered what is going on in the minds of the recruiters? Want to make sure your application gets the consideration it deserves?


This workshop will focus on the job search process: from preparing application materials to writing interview thank you notes, with an added emphasis on crafting application materials and interviewing. The workshop is intended for both archivists new to the profession and archivists who want to brush up on their job seeking skills.


This two day workshop (October 6-7; 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) is pre-approved for ten (10) Archival Recertification Credits in Section B.3.v of the petition (Education / Attendance at archival seminars, workshops, institutes / Program of 2 days).


Access is limited to thirty (30) so please register early.

Instructor Information:

Arlene Schmuland is a graduate of the archives and records management program at Western Washington University, a Certified Archivist, and has been working as a professional archivist for over 17 years. She is currently the head of Archives and Special Collections at the Consortium Library, University of Alaska Anchorage. Her other archival work experience includes the Utah State Archives and Records Service, Bonneville County (Idaho) District Court, and the University of Washington. Author of a 2010 blog on archival job searching, http://www.elusivearchives.blogspot.com and veteran of many recruitments from both sides of the table, Arlene is dedicated to ensuring that candidates do the best possible job of representing themselves and their skills in the archival hiring marketplace while avoiding the worst of the frustration.
